Notice of Annual General Meeting and Constitutional Amendment to clause 6.1.1
ELAC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be at the Banff Park Lodge on Saturday, May 5, 2018. The meeting will run from 12:30-2:00 (lunch included).
Notice of Motion
At our AGM, we will be voting on a constitutional amendment.
Motion - Clause 6.1.1 is proposed to read as follows:
6.1.1 The president, who succeeds to the position for a two year term after serving as president-elect for one year, a president-elect, who is elected every second year on odd numbered years), and a secretary and a treasurer (or a secretary-treasurer), each of whom are elected annually at the annual general meeting of the Council
*Clause 6.1.1 - The president, president-elect (or vice-president), secretary, and treasurer (or a secretary-treasurer), all of whom are elected annually at the annual
general meeting of the Council.
Rationale for Proposed Amendment:
The current presidential term is one year, and the council has concluded that a two-year term would allow for the president to form and follow through with long-term goals. The longer term would also allow presidents to develop their expertise in their leadership role which would benefit the general membership and ELAC overall. This change would also mean that ELAC would elect a president-elect every two years, and that a past-president would sit only in years where there is no president-elect. This structure would allow for both mentorship of the president-elect prior to sitting as president, and continuing support for a new president by the immediate past-president.
