Cheryl O'Brien, 2015 Friends of ELAC Award Winner
Nominated by Marg Iveson: Cheryl supported my efforts to co-direct two conferences for ELAC. Cheryl worked with me patiently, teaching me what I needed to know and removing obstacles wherever she could. Cheryl was very encouraging, especially when problems (like time constraints) threatened to overwhelm me. Cheryl was accessible and responsive, ensuring that nothing was missed. There is no doubt in my mind that she contributed to the success of each of those conferences. Cheryl is committed to serving teachers, and I believe she consistently rose over and above the call of duty to support our efforts to contribute to professional learning in the province.
In her employment with the ATA, Cheryl has always assisted ELAC with membership, conferences, publication requests and other information. If she doesn't know something, she finds out quickly and in a helpful manner. Her cheery disposition and efficiency support work for our specialist council in a pleasurable way. If someone says, "Ask Cheryl O'Brien" or "Cheryl O'Brien can probably help with that," we are always glad, because we know she will receive the assistance we need. Our volunteers change, but her permanence facilitates continuity for ELAC.
