Statement of Philosophy
Left unchecked, the Internet, Facebook, twitter and other social media can contribute to information overload. Our only reprieve is to return to our love for language through the pursuit of our curiosities.
What we think, feel, value and strive for, what we witness, understand, and believe are all expressed through language. These experiences endure by the power of the story. Stories call us to learn from the past, to connect with others in the present, and to dream collectively of the future.
As we grow, those around us use stories to help us make sense of the world. These early stories teach us life lessons. Throughout our school years, stories continue to teach lessons and harvest an appreciation for the simple beauty of sincere and authentic expression.
As teachers of English Language Arts, our primary purpose is to foster a love of learning through literacy. Beyond appreciating others’ craft, we hope to inspire our students to collaborate, create, and contribute their own stories, in the hope that they might shape the world in which they live.
This task need not be a lonely pursuit. By creating a community of practice we can help people connect to their natural love of language and to share that passion with others. A love for language is at the core of our abilities to express in words the deeper meanings that are the stories of our lives, in a manner that inspires people to stop what they are doing and listen.
