Celebrating Words Writing Contest Regulations
Entries must be legibly written, printed, or typed on one side of 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. Scanned entries are accepted. You must include the cover sheet with your entry.
Prose entries should not be more than 1500 words in length and double-spaced. Poetry entries should not exceed two single-spaced pages.
Each writer may submit only one entry (either prose or poetry, not both). Representations of the entries are welcomed. Contest entries should not contain explicit sexual or violent content, coarse language, or nudity.
Writers may use work initiated in the language arts classroom and may have writing conferences about the work, but it must be the writer's own work. The writer must include his/her name on the work itself. By submitting the work online, the student and parent indicate that the entry is original and not previously published.
Copyright of the winning entries will reside with the Alberta Teachers' Association. Entries must be postmarked/dated no later than February 1, 2017. Winners will be contacted by email in the spring, and will receive a copy of the publication in the fall of the following school year.The rubric for judging the entries will include criteria for inventiveness, original voice, awareness of audience, and writing skills appropriate for age level.
